Yana Kuchirko
Yana Kuchirko, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Brooklyn College and CUNY Graduate Center. She received her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from New York University. AT CUNY, Dr. Kuchirko directs The Culture and Child Development Lab, where she and her students examine cultural contexts of childrenโs development. Specifically, Dr. Kuchirko examines sociocultural and ecological contexts of child development, with a focus on how children and youth are socialized at the intersections of culture, ethnicity/race, and gender across the early years of life in the context of everyday settings. Her work is grounded in theories and scholarship across disciplines, with an emphasis on critical perspectives, macro-level ideologies and narratives that shape socialization of children, and social constructions of childhood. Dr. Kuchirkoโs research has appeared in numerous journals, including Child Development, Developmental Science, Infancy, Journal of Early Childhood Literacy, Developmental Neuropsychology, and Journal of Child Language. She is a recipient of the Infancy Early Career Researcher Award from the International Congress of Infant Studies.
