This Book
Foreword
Language acquisition is more than a cognitive exercise; it is a deeply human experience enriched by culture, emotion, and creativity. In an era of globalization, where linguistic diversity forms the foundation of multicultural societies, the role of innovative teaching methodologies in second language acquisition (SLA) is more crucial than ever.
In “Canvas of Words, Rhythm of Speech: The Transformative Role of Art and Music in Maltese Language Learning for Adults,” Jacqueline ลปammit presents an engaging exploration of how visual art and music can serve as catalysts in acquiring Maltese as a second language (ML2). Her research highlights adult learners’ challenges and provides insightful recommendations on integrating creative pedagogies into language instruction.
As an academic and researcher, ลปammit brings a wealth of knowledge to this subject, offering a fresh perspective on the intersection of artistic expression and linguistic proficiency. She challenges traditional teaching paradigms by emphasising multisensory engagement and advocates for a more immersive, culturally attuned learning experience.
This monograph is an essential contribution to SLA research, particularly for educators, linguists, and policymakers striving to enhance adult language learning in Malta and beyond. It is my privilege to introduce this work, which stands as both an academic resource and a call to reimagine language education more inclusively and dynamically.
ย Sincerely, Jacqueline ลปammit, March 2025
