If Medicine has as its goal the cure of man from a disease, Bioethics operates at the other end as a shield of man against the tremendous developments of medical science and technology. It mainly consists in the humanitarian and social sciences like, philosophy, theology, psychology, law, sociology, economics, and politics, and aims at safeguarding that contemporary medical science and technology benefits and does not harm man or human society. Understood in this way, Bioethics is a multi-faceted science that attempts to balance the extremities and severe dangers that the contemporary genetic, reproductive and other medical technologies pose for man and humankind. Its perspective is therefore complex, since the bioethicist may view and consider an issue from any of the above aspects, i.e. philosophical, theological, legal, political etc. In the present volume we aspire to collect contributions by renowned bioethicists whatever the field they come from. We welcome articles from philosophers, lawyers, sociologists, economists, politicians, and, of course, medical people and technocrats. The perspectives of the contributions may range from national and international on the one hand, to ecumenical and universal on the other, as a more theoretical approach would require.

Perspectives in Bioethics is open to culture- and religious- relative approaches, as also to more catholic and universal ones. Moreover, it also invites historical and empirical contributions or systematic and more theoretical ones. The aim of the publishers is to offer the forum for opening a universal discussion of the main problems that current medical developments and their applications bring about and quite often seem to threat man as a whole. Bioethics, through its rather complex nature and multidisciplinary character, seems to be our last resort for protecting human values and moral principles from the fatal dangers and risks to which medical inventions and technologies gradually lead us. Perspectives in Bioethics will be a collection of scholarly and scientific edited chapters contributed by authors from different research fields. This book will provide a unique platform for academia, researchers, and practitioners to share their knowledge and experiences and to present their recent and ongoing research activities. Innovative ideas in the field will be covered in this book. The book will be edited by an experienced and highly distinguished Editor, an expert in the field. Practicing researchers, academics, scientists, and scholars, will compose the target audience of the edited book.
